What is the Swiss Interbank Clearing (SIC) system?
The Swiss Interbank Clearing (SIC) system, operated by SIX-SIC under the supervision of the Swiss National Bank, processes payments between financial institutions in real time on a gross settlement basis, handling transactions amounting to approximately 100 billion Swiss francs (around 100 billion USD or EUR) per day. In 2016, SIX implemented a new system, selecting the Securosys Primus HSM S-Series. In selecting Securosys HSM to secure the payment transactions, SIX Interbank Clearing considered several criteria, including the fulfillment of security and project requirements, performance with commonly used long keys, and, ultimately, the manufacturer's reliability.
How Does Securosys Support SIC?
Switzerland's banking infrastructure demands the highest security levels and the ability to adapt to evolving security threats. At the heart of this IT security framework is the Primus HSM S-Series, which acts as a digital vault. Our HSMs generate and manage encryption keys and certificates to encrypt and sign financial transactions.
How Does the Primus HSM S-Series Work?
The Primus S-Series HSM was specifically designed for the Swiss Interbank Clearing System. These HSMs are built to accommodate technological advancements and increased security and performance needs, which are crucial for the future of Swiss payments. The Primus S-Series HSM features market-leading encryption and authentication performance and uses cryptographic algorithms that are secure against post-quantum computing threats. These advanced HSM models highlight the commitment of Securosys and SIX to strengthening the security and efficiency of Switzerland’s financial system.
